OTTAWA, 1 May 2008
– Colin Carrie, Member of Parliament for Oshawa and
Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, today welcomed the
news of the Windsor-Essex Parkway.

The proposed Parkway will improve the flow
of international trade and traffic across the border. This
project would also boost the Ontario economy by helping to
create up to 12,000 direct and indirect jobs.
“This announcement is vital to the
flow of international goods and investments into Ontario,”
said Colin Carrie. “The Parkway will
ensure timely delivery
schedules for auto manufacturing facilities on both sides of
the border, including those in Oshawa and the GTA.”
The Government of Canada's commitment will
come from the new merit-based Gateways and Border Crossings Fund
that is part of the Building Canada Plan.
“This has been needed for years and I am
pleased that it is finally being delivered under this
Conservative Government,” concluded Mr. Carrie.
Through its unprecedented $33-billion
Building Canada infrastructure plan, the Government of Canada
will provide long-term, stable and predictable funding to help
meet infrastructure needs across Canada. Building Canada will
support a stronger, safer and better country.
