OTTAWA, 7 April 2006 – Colin Carrie, Oshawa Member of Parliament and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Industry, was present in Ottawa for this week’s Speech from the Throne by Her Excellency, the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean.
The Throne Speech outlined the mandate for change Canadians voted for on January 23rd, and marked the beginning of the 39th session of Parliament.
“The Speech From the Throne highlighted the new government’s commitment to executing its top priorities with focus and discipline,” said Mr. Carrie. “Yet the Speech also demonstrated the government’s willingness to work together with all parties to find common goals and ideas to ensure a productive session of Parliament.”
The Speech outlined the Conservative government’s top five priorities – bringing accountability back to government, helping ordinary working Canadians and their families by lowering the GST, tackling crime, providing real child care choices and support, and ensuring Canadians get the health care they have paid for. The Speech also emphasized the government’s desire for more open federalism, and a commitment to addressing the fiscal imbalance.
“There are a number of national and local priorities that I will be working hard to see implemented in this session of Parliament. We have a clear focus and direction, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to implement the legislation we campaigned on.
“It is a great honour to represent the constituents of Oshawa in this new government, and I am looking forward to serving both Canada and my constituents as we turn over a new leaf in Canadian politics,” concluded Mr. Carrie. |
