The Ontario government has ordered a 4-week province-wide lockdown of all but the most essential services beginning April 3, 2021. This past week, the Province expanded this directive to a 28-day stay-at-home order.
These stringent restrictions are in place to address rapidly escalating conditions, including the spread of several COVID-19 "variants of concern" (VOCs). Premier Ford calls it a much-needed "emergency brake".
Many public health experts feel the lockdown and order are required to stem an acute spike in VOC-related hospitalizations, particularly in Toronto and Peel Region.
Others feel these measures are excessive, unfair to better-performing regions like Durham and may further jeopardize the livelihoods of thousands of families and small businesses.
